Dramalj
Dramalj is a small city situated near Crikvenica. But not a lot of writings have been found about Dramalj. The villagers assume that there was a big fire in that all documents were destroyed. A long time ago Dramalj had the name “Dram”. Dram was even a Greek unit for weight. Dram was established in the 6th or better said in the beginning of the 7th century. It became the name Dramalj when on the name Dram the Croatian suffix –alj was added.
Three years ago a very rare fossil was found here, to be exact the skeleton of a cave lion. Some assume that this is one of the largest cave lions ever seen.
In a cave near Dramalj two sculls with teeth, some parts of the ribs, some extremities and parts of the paw were found. Among this some other fossils were found like the ones of wolfs, rhinos, buffalos, small mammals and birds. This unusual finding is very important for Dramalj.
