History and culture
The oldest tracks of civilization on this ground were found on the hill St. Georges and they are from the prehistoric times. The roman road was very significant for this area, because it connected northern Italy with Dalmatia and that is why the Croats came here in the 6th century. They have learned everything there is to know about wine gardening. This area was even famous for its great wine and excellent wine gardens.
Selce and the area around it was the property of the family Frankopan and in the same time is develops to be an important trading port. From 1572 the Vinodol belong to the family Zrinski who developed the trading business and that is how they contributed to the development of this area. After that the villagers started to build a long tradition of wine gardening, fishing and olive gardening.
