History and Culture
The first people inhabited this area in the stone age. The people were mostly hunting and the bays and caves served as their homes. The evidence shows that the oldest homes where placed at strategic places that is at the highest point of the place. The former Čelo building was located at such a place, because it was so easier to overlook the bay and the ships.
In the Lokvišće bay homesteads were built, which served for th production of oil and wine. Many things go in favour of this development of events and these can be seen in form of different material evidence like for example amphoras.
The first Croats came from northern Dalmatia and they inhabited this are during the 8th and the 9th century.
Jadranovo, or to be more precise of St. James was in the newer history just a place where mostly fishermen and masons lived. The development of tourism began in 1935 and this is today the most important economic sector.
